Origins & History
Samudrika Shastra is a system of body-reading that developed within the tradition of the ancient Indian Vedic texts, observing not only the lines and shape of the palm (Hasta Rekha) but also features across the whole body, including facial features, build, and the placement of moles. Alongside Hindu astrology (Jyotish), it has long formed part of India’s traditional practice of reading a person’s life.
The palmistry-centered branch of this system is said to have spread from India to the Middle East and Europe, becoming one of the roots of palmistry traditions found around the world. Even today in India, the traditional practice of reading character from bodily features remains firmly established, used to check compatibility before marriage and to guide decisions at major turning points in life.
