Metoposcopy is a form of physiognomy systematized in Renaissance Europe, in which the number and position of the lines on a person’s forehead are observed and mapped onto the seven planets from Saturn to the Moon, to read personality and life tendencies. Origins & History
Metoposcopy is a form of physiognomy systematized by the 16th-century Italian mathematician and physician Gerolamo Cardano. His book "Metoposcopia," written in 1558 and published posthumously in 1658, comprises 13 volumes and, with more than 800 illustrations of foreheads, sets out a system that maps the horizontal lines appearing on the forehead onto the seven planets: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, the Sun, Venus, Mercury, and the Moon.
The idea of reading personality and destiny from forehead lines is said to date back to antiquity, and reached its peak in the 16th and 17th centuries after passing through the Middle Ages. By building a precise system focused narrowly on the forehead, it came to be positioned as a distinct branch within the broader field of Western physiognomy.
